Commissioning Engineer

Location: Venlo, Netherlands (Hybrid)

Company Overview

Our client is an international leader in sustainable process engineering solutions, supporting projects globally across biogas, CO₂ recovery, and related process technologies. Due to significant growth in their project portfolio, they are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join their team.


Position Summary

The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the on-site execution, commissioning, and handover of customer projects. This role oversees all commissioning activities following the design, production, and installation phases, ensuring quality standards, timelines, and client requirements are achieved. The Commissioning Engineer will report directly to the Installation & Commissioning Manager and collaborate closely with the Project Manager.


Key Responsibilities

Site Management

  • Supervise on-site works, ensuring safe and efficient project execution

  • Maintain project planning, monitor progress, and escalate delays where necessary

  • Coordinate with customers and subcontractors to maintain progress

  • Complete and manage site documentation, including timesheets, punch lists, certificates, and as-built records

  • Oversee relevant certification and sign-off processes with the customer

Commissioning

  • Develop and maintain a commissioning plan in collaboration with the project manager and customer

  • Prepare and execute commissioning activities, including leak testing, system vacuuming, I/O testing, and safety checks

  • Provide training to customer operators (theoretical and practical)

  • Conduct performance tests and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) to ensure project readiness for handover

  • Maintain commissioning documentation, including progress reports, refrigerant logbooks, software downloads, and acceptance certificates

Communication & Coordination

  • Act as the communication link between the site, project team, and installation & commissioning departments

  • Ensure clear, timely, and effective information flow

Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)

  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure all safety tools and equipment are calibrated and up to date


Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Process, Chemical, Marine, or Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in commissioning or project-based engineering roles

  • Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration, process, and control technology

  • Proficient in English (spoken and written)

  • Competent with MS Office tools

  • Familiarity with relevant guidelines and norms (e.g., CE PED, ATEX)

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and flexible, with resilience under pressure

  • Collaborative team player with strong communication and customer-facing skills

  • Analytical with a solution-focused, quality-driven mindset

  • Ability to manage and coordinate complex processes
