Why this role stands out

If you're looking for a leadership role where you can make a real difference, this is it. You'll be joining a company that sits at the heart of some of the most advanced and secure engineering projects in the UK. Configuration may not always be in the spotlight, but here it's a critical function with high visibility, strong backing from leadership, and direct impact on systems that protect national security.

This is a rare chance to step into a role that offers both strategic influence and day-to-day ownership. You'll lead a growing team, shape how Configuration is delivered across multiple defence programmes, and have a genuine voice in how systems are controlled, managed and supported through their lifecycle. Your work will be visible, valued and central to the business.

You'll also benefit from a supportive environment that encourages technical leadership, recognises your expertise, and gives you the space to grow. Whether you're looking to step up into a lead role or bring your experience into a more forward-thinking organisation, this is a place where your skills will be put to use in the right way.

What you can expect

  • A leadership role with autonomy, trust and long-term career potential
  • The chance to directly influence how complex systems are managed, controlled and delivered
  • Involvement in high-profile defence programmes with meaningful national impact
  • A collaborative team culture that actively supports professional development
  • Flexible working patterns and hybrid working options
  • A package that reflects the seniority and importance of the role

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the Configuration Engineering function across multiple delivery teams
  • Managing and mentoring a small team of engineers, helping to shape best practice
  • Acting as the Configuration lead on technically complex defence programmes
  • Driving improvements in tooling, processes and documentation standards
  • Representing Configuration Engineering at project and functional leadership level
  • Ensuring configuration data, change control and system traceability is always maintained

What you'll bring

  • A background in engineering or configuration management, ideally within defence, aerospace or other regulated sectors
  • Experience working with configuration standards such as DEF-STAN 05-057 or similar
  • Confidence leading small teams and influencing across a broader engineering function
  • A structured and pragmatic approach to governance, compliance and delivery
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, solution-focused mindset

If you're looking for a role where you can lead with purpose, contribute to essential programmes and be part of a company that values engineering excellence, this is the kind of opportunity worth exploring.
