TEC Partners are recruiting for a leading biotech who are developing a next generation scientific instrument that is set to revolutionise the field of Gene Synthesis.

You'll form part of a closely-knit multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electronic and software engineers, synthetic and surface chemists, physicists and biologists.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role

They are looking for a mechanical design & development engineer to take ownership of projects to develop and detail the design of components, sub-systems & bespoke assembly jigs and fixtures for our first products.

They expect you to be passionate about seeing your designs and assemblies through the complete product development process; from concept and detail design to being hands-on in the lab building and testing.

Over the next two years they will move from one-off prototypes, through Beta prototypes for early market testing to low volume production. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in the transfer to manufacture of their projects and designs.

There is also an opportunity within this role to provide technical mentorship to other members of the mechanical engineering team.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer requirements

You will be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, with demonstrable industry experience focused on mechanical design & product development.

Essential experience and expertise

  • Proven track record of delivering reliable designs into production
  • Experience of designing components for a range of manufacturing techniques, materials and assembly processes and volumes
  • Experienced 3D CAD user, preferably Solidworks
  • Skilled in the creation of 2D drawings
  • An organised approach to work and an excellent attention to detail
  • Motivated in seeing work through from beginning to end
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team

Desirable experience and expertise

  • Background of working within life sciences, ink-jet printing, medical devices or scientific instrument design
  • Experience of working within a quality management system, for example ISO13485
  • Experience and interest in mechanical and fluidic simulation and modelling (mechanical FEA, CFD etc.)
  • Experience and interest in tolerance analysis including statistical methods
