Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. This role will involve designing vehicle-level harnessing for Bus/Commercial vehicles programs as well as subsystem-level harnessing for Battery, Inverter, Motor, and HVAC systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering cost-effective Electrical Harness and cable management solutions.
- Completing and/or supporting the release of detailed engineering drawings.
- Producing schematics and drawings from component datasheets.
- Reviewing requirements and developing specifications in collaboration with Systems and Mechanical Engineering Groups.
- Supporting design reviews and maintaining specifications and procedures.
- Liaising with manufacturing functions and suppliers regarding Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Resolving design, manufacturing, safety, and reliability concerns.
- Supporting project management, supply chain, and manufacturing with parts delivery and build.
- Leading Value Engineering and benchmarking initiatives.
- Assisting with training new staff.
- Adhering to Company Quality System procedures and instructions.
- Supporting Supply Chain and Quality Assurance with supplier development.
Qualifications:
- Relevant Engineering Degree/HND or equivalent qualification/experience.
Experience:
- Essential experience in designing Power, Signal, and Data Harnesses for Bus, Commercial Vehicle, Rail, or Automotive applications.
- Advantageous experience in Aerospace applications.
- Experience in cable protection and management.
- Essential product development and value engineering experience.
- Advantageous experience in Electric Vehicle high voltage system and cable design.
- Thorough knowledge of volume production processes, materials, and assembly techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of Value Engineering, DFA, DFM techniques for low-cost production.
- Working knowledge of GPDS, DVP, FMEA, and APQP is advantageous.
- Use of PLM systems is advantageous.
- Solid experience working with or designing vehicle electrical systems.
- Knowledge of vehicle electrical/electronic system function.
Skills:
- Ability to interpret vehicle and subsystem requirements.
- Proficiency in generating Electrical schematics and cable design definitions in CAD.
- Experience with Creo Schematics or KiCad is advantageous.
- Essential ability to calculate Electrical conductor sizing.
- Proficiency in PTC Creo 3D CAD is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Analytical and numeracy skills with an eye for detail.
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with team members, clients, and contractors.
- Leadership and negotiation skills.
