Control Systems Engineer - Industrial Automation
Location: Venlo, The Netherlands

We are seeking a Control Systems Engineer to design, develop, and commission advanced industrial control systems for Biogas and CO₂ recovery projects. This role combines hands-on programming, testing, and on-site commissioning with opportunities to optimize and standardize control systems across projects.

Role Overview

As a Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for programming PLCs and HMIs, performing FAT and SAT testing, and supporting on-site commissioning. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams-including mechanical, electrical, and process engineers-to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery. Additionally, you will contribute to continuous improvement by optimizing software standards and sharing technical expertise across projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control System Design & Development:

    • Program and configure Siemens TIA Portal, STEP 7 PLCs, and WinCC HMIs; Rockwell/Allen-Bradley experience is a plus.

    • Develop software solutions for process automation in Biogas and CO₂ recovery plants, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and safety regulations.

    • Translate functional requirements into reliable and efficient control system designs.

  • Testing & Commissioning:

    • Prepare and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).

    • Support on-site commissioning and troubleshooting of control systems (~15% international travel).

    • Ensure systems meet functional specifications, safety standards, and client requirements.

  • Documentation & Compliance:

    • Produce and maintain operation manuals, installation guides, FAT/SAT reports, and software documentation.

    • Ensure compliance with Safety PLC standards and relevant industrial guidelines.

  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

    • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams to integrate control systems effectively.

    • Contribute technical knowledge to optimize control system architecture and project execution.

    • Identify and implement improvements to software standards and project processes.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in industrial control systems (PLC & HMI programming).

  • Strong knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal, STEP 7, WinCC; Rockwell/Allen-Bradley is a plus.

  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Profinet, Profibus, Modbus).

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and P&IDs.

  • Experience creating FAT/SAT reports and commissioning industrial systems.

  • Knowledge of Safety PLC systems and relevant standards.

  • Analytical, solution-oriented, and able to manage complex processes.

  • Advanced English; Dutch is a plus.

  • Willingness to travel internationally (~15%).
