A leading government-backed organisation is seeking a Modelling and Simulation Specialist to join a newly formed team focused on the certification and validation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Automated Driving Systems (ADS). This is a technically focused position where you'll use your expertise in vehicle simulation to assess and validate evidence obtained through simulated environments for type approval.

The Role

As the Modelling and Simulation Specialist, you will:

  • Lead assessments of simulation-based evidence to demonstrate compliance with automotive safety and performance standards.
  • Oversee the technical activities involved in validating simulation toolchains and methodologies.
  • Audit processes used by manufacturers to ensure simulation data is reliable, credible, and compliant with type approval legislation.
  • Conduct credibility assessments of simulations, verifying assumptions, analysing uncertainty, and benchmarking results against real-world data.
  • Develop and refine validation procedures to ensure accuracy, reliability, and repeatability across simulation environments.
  • Provide expert technical guidance to internal engineers and stakeholders on the use of virtual assessments for type approval.
  • Mentor and support colleagues to enhance simulation and modelling expertise within the wider engineering team.

You'll play a key role in advancing the organisation's ability to assess vehicle behaviour virtually, contributing directly to the safe introduction of automated and driver-assist technologies on UK roads.

You'll bring a detail-oriented, analytical mindset and the ability to apply engineering judgement to complex virtual assessments.

Essential experience:

  • Proven experience using industry-recognised simulation software to evaluate vehicle dynamic performance for ADAS/ADS applications.
  • Hands-on experience validating simulation models against experimental or real-world data.
  • Strong technical background in simulation methodologies and virtual testing.

Desirable:

  • Degree (Level 6 or higher) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within type approval, certification, or regulatory environments.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of vehicle certification, contributing to the safety and reliability of automated vehicle technologies in the UK and beyond.
