Forward Deployed, AI Engineer

Berlin
€80000 - €120000 per annum

About the role

As a Founding Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work directly on real customer problems, often in close collaboration with enterprise stakeholders.

This is not a pure backend or platform role - and not a classic consulting role either.

You will:

  • deeply understand customer workflows & ontology
  • prototype and ship AI-powered solutions
  • iterate quickly based on real feedback
  • balance speed, accuracy, and pragmatism
  • help shape both the product and the company

You will be one of our first forward deployed engineering hires and have significant influence on how we build, what we build, and how fast we move - together with our customers.

What You'll Do

You will own new AI automation use cases end-to-end and shape the way we consistently turn prototypes into customer-ready deployments on top of platform within weeks.

Build & Ship AI Solutions

  • Own customer-facing AI solutions end-to-end - from early prototype to live customer deployment - while building on top of platform abstractions
  • Use and combine modern applied AI approaches (LLMs, agentic workflows, vision models, embeddings, heuristics) to solve real, high-impact customer problems
  • Design and implement solution-level data pipelines for document ingestion, extraction, validation, and orchestration, leveraging existing platform capabilities

Work Closely With Customers

  • Turn ambiguous customer problems into scoped, buildable solutions
  • Deeply understand customer workflows and ontologies
  • Balance automation with human-in-the-loop where needed

Scale What Works

  • Identify recurring patterns across customer projects and extract what can be reused - both technically and procedurally
  • Help codify successful solutions into repeatable patterns and templates, in collaboration with product and platform engineers
  • Continuously improve how quickly and reliably these solutions are delivered to customers

Past Projects You Would Have Been Part Of

  • LLM extraction agent for interior estimation

Built a PoC that extracts quantities from unstructured documents, saving ~4 days of work per project.

  • Subcontractor KYC automation

Developed an internal app to automate KYC checks, reducing manual effort by ~50%.

  • LLM-based Bill of Quantities parsing

Created a parser that structures complex BoQs automatically, saving hours per day for procurement managers.

  • Construction ontologies with enterprise customers

Co-developed interior and shell construction ontologies that power downstream AI automation.

Current Tech Stack

It is still day 0. Therefore we are highly pragmatic with our tool choices. We believe in keeping it simple and moving quickly. You significantly help shape our tech stack decisions.

  • Web-App: Typescript / Vite
  • Cloud Functions: Supabase
  • Database / Vector DB and File Storage: Supabase (postgress) / Weaviate / AWS S3
  • Backend (Document Pipelines & applied AI): Fastify API / TS + Python for ML Services
  • Hosting: Railway (Moving to AWS)
  • AI: Azure / OpenAI, Gemini, Cohere
  • Obsv., Eval. & Tracking: Langfuse, Datadog

Your opportunity

You'll join as one of the first engineering hires and play a central role in shaping both the product and how we build it.

You'll work on real customer problems from day one, make technical decisions with direct impact, and help define the foundations of our AI platform - balancing fast iteration, customer value, and long-term scalability.

You'll own meaningful parts of Kuro end-to-end, with the autonomy to grow as a strong individual contributor or take on leadership responsibility over time. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to build, ship, and shape a company in its early days.

Your profile

This role is ideal for a hungry and talented software engineer or data scientist seeking close customer exposure in an early-stage company building a high-impact applied AI product. You enjoy taking ownership, moving fast, and building things end-to-end.

  • Have 2**+ years** of experience as a software engineer or data scientist
  • Are comfortable owning problems end-to-end
  • Thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Are pragmatic and biased toward action
  • Enjoy working directly with customers and like to visit them on site
  • Are excited about applied AI, not just theory
  • Can clearly explain trade-offs and decisions
  • You are at least able to speak C1 german

Bonus Points

  • Experience in early-stage startups or founding teams
  • Prior experience with customer-facing roles
  • Experience with unstructured data and ontologies

Team, Values & Benefits

We work in-person from our office in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. You must be willing to be located in Berlin. We aim for 5 days in the office a week.

Our goal is to build a small, highly motivated team of smart, kind, and driven individuals who are eager to learn, embrace challenges, and challenge others in return. We value pragmatic people who are unafraid to take ownership and decisions.

  • We care about what we build, while our main goal is to run fast, we take great pride about thinking and making well thought-out decisions and managing our technical-debt.
  • We are strongly focused on delivering value to our enterprise customers fast
  • We plan to have as little overhead as possible
    • We set weekly goals and work towards them
    • You can expect to have ~1 meeting a day on average
    • No over-blown structures or planning sessions
