Principal Safety Assessment Specialist

Location: Reading
Contract: 18-Month Contract
Security Clearance: DV Required (SC Cleared Candidates Considered)

We are recruiting for an experienced Safety Assessment Team Lead to join a highly regulated and security-sensitive environment based in Reading on an 18-month contract.

*** Due to the nature of the work, this role requires DV clearance. Candidates who currently hold SC clearance and are eligible to upgrade will also be considered. Applicants must hold British Citizenship (dual nationals may also be considered). ***

The Role

You will lead a team of Safety Assessment Specialists responsible for the production, review, and governance of nuclear safety documentation and safety justifications. This is a senior technical leadership role requiring strong experience in safety case development within a regulated environment.

You will take ownership of safety documentation, ensure compliance with management system requirements, and drive continuous improvement in safety assessment processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a Safety Assessment Specialist team in the production and governance of safety documentation
  • Deliver high-quality safety assessments and technical documentation to required standards
  • Take ownership of safety justifications as directed by senior leadership
  • Monitor delivery and performance using appropriate metrics
  • Ensure safety documentation aligns with management system and licence condition requirements
  • Contribute to company safety policy, guidance, and strategy
  • Provide technical input into training and capability development
  • Mentor and develop safety assessors and senior team members
  • Support verification and checking of safety documentation
  • Promote high standards in security, environmental, safety, and health practices

  • Proven experience in safety assessment and safety case development within a highly regulated environment
  • Experience leading or mentoring technical teams
  • Strong understanding of governance, compliance, and safety documentation standards
  • Ability to operate within strict security and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
