An established engineering and infrastructure business is seeking an Operational Health & Safety Manager to lead health, safety, and compliance across both office and UK-wide project sites.
This role is particularly well suited to individuals who have transitioned from a site or project management background into Health & Safety, bringing strong operational understanding alongside HSE expertise.
You will work closely with senior leadership to drive a proactive safety culture, ensure legal compliance, and support efficient project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Health & Safety across office and UK-wide project sites
- Develop, implement, and maintain H&S policies in line with UK legislation
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
- Conduct risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work
- Carry out site inspections and audits, identifying areas for improvement
- Oversee contractor safety, including RAMS reviews and permit-to-work systems
- Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
- Identify root causes and drive corrective and preventative actions
- Deliver H&S training and ensure workforce competence across all levels
- Promote a proactive, positive safety culture across operational teams
- Monitor HSE performance, analyse trends, and report to senior leadership
- Support continuous improvement across processes, systems, and behaviours
Requirements
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
- Experience within an operational environment (e.g. construction, engineering, manufacturing)
- Background in site or project management, with a transition into HSE highly desirable
- Proven experience in risk assessments and incident investigations
- Strong written and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Confident communicator, able to influence and challenge at all levels
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
Desirable
- Experience within engineering or manufacturing sectors
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 management systems
- Experience across both site and office environments
