We're supporting a leading UK defence engineering organisation in the search for a Safety Engineer to join a growing team working on complex naval and maritime programmes.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in the safety assurance of mission-critical systems that support some of the UK's most advanced defence platforms. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you'll help ensure safety is considered throughout the entire system lifecycle, influencing design decisions and supporting the delivery of highly reliable solutions.

Whether you already have experience within safety engineering or are looking to further develop your career in this area, this role offers excellent long-term progression and exposure to major defence programmes.

The Role

As a Safety Engineer, you'll support the delivery of safety activities across a range of complex defence projects, working closely with systems, software, hardware, and project engineering teams.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting system and product safety activities throughout the engineering lifecycle
  • Conducting hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety analysis activities
  • Producing and maintaining safety documentation and safety cases
  • Supporting FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), HAZOP, and LOPA activities
  • Defining and managing safety requirements
  • Participating in design reviews and safety working groups
  • Working with multidisciplinary teams to influence safe engineering design decisions

What We're Looking For

  • Experience within defence, aerospace, marine, rail, nuclear, or other safety-critical industries
  • Understanding of functional or product safety principles
  • Knowledge of standards such as IEC 61508 and/or Def Stan 00-056
  • Experience applying safety and reliability techniques including FMECA, FTA, HAZOP, or hazard analysis
  • Understanding of hardware and software failure modes
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Degree, HND, HNC, or equivalent engineering qualification
