CNC Setter/Operator – Turning
Location: Thetford, Norfolk
Shift: Thursday – Sunday
We are urgently recruiting for an experienced CNC Turner to join an established manufacturing business in Thetford.
This position is specifically supporting the weekend day shift, working Thursday to Sunday, and is ideal for an experienced CNC Turner looking for a consistent four-day working week.
The Role
As a CNC Setter/Operator, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC turning centres to manufacture high-quality components accurately to engineering drawings and specifications.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Setting and operating CNC turning centres, including tooling selection, offsets and work holding.
- Carrying out the safe prove-out of jobs prior to production.
- Working with CNC controls including Fanuc, Siemens and/or Mitsubishi (DMG MORI).
- Operating multi-axis turning machinery and producing parts accurately to specification.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, tolerances and basic GD&T.
- Completing first-off and in-process inspections using verniers, micrometres, bore gauges and other measuring equipment.
- Recording inspection results accurately where required.
- Responding to machine alarms and carrying out basic fault finding.
- Troubleshooting machining and quality issues to minimise downtime.
- Maintaining a safe, clean and organised workstation in line with 5S and health & safety procedures.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a CNC Setter/Operator within Turning, ideally 5+ years in a production environment.
- Strong CNC turning setting and operating experience.
- Experience with Fanuc, Siemens and/or Mitsubishi controls.
- A good understanding of multi-axis CNC turning.
- The ability to read engineering drawings and work accurately to tight tolerances.
- Confidence using a range of inspection and measuring equipment.
- Good basic fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability and timekeeping.
- The ability to work independently during the Thursday – Sunday weekend shift.
- A strong commitment to health & safety and quality.
Desirable Experience
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
- DMG MORI, Citizen and Fanuc-based turning centres.
- Live tooling.
- Making minor CNC program edits at the machine.
- Continuous improvement, including cycle-time and scrap reduction.
- Working from route cards, SOPs and control plans.
- Basic SPC knowledge.
- Machining a range of materials including steel, stainless steel and aluminium.
- A good understanding of cutting data.
