Opportunity Overview

A leading technology and engineering company specialising in defence systems is seeking a Software Test Engineer to join its growing software engineering team. This position plays a key role in building, testing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions that support a range of mission-critical products and services.

This role would suit someone with a solid technical foundation, a collaborative approach, and a keen eye for detail who is looking to develop their skills within a complex engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and test software to support core products and internal systems

  • Produce and maintain software build and test specifications

  • Work collaboratively across teams to improve the testability and quality of software

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, customers, and technical partners on software-related matters

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes and practices

  • Undertake additional project or testing tasks as required by management

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Technical background with a strong understanding of the software engineering lifecycle, particularly test and integration

  • At least 1 year of practical experience testing software for PCs running Windows

  • Experience writing test plans, specifications, and reports

  • Knowledge of scripting or programming languages to assist with automated testing and builds

  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in MS Office

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in building software and software installers

  • Previous work in a technical or engineering organisation

  • Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and overseas to support testing and deployment activities

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
