Precision Machine Training Specialist (Contract)

Rate: £59 per hour (umbrella)
An opportunity is available for an experienced machining professional to take on a hands-on, training-focused role within a high-integrity engineering and manufacturing environment. This position is suited to someone with strong practical machining experience who enjoys coaching, mentoring, and developing others on the job.
The Role
You will be responsible for training and supporting machinists in precision machining activities, ensuring safe working practices and high standards of workmanship. The role has a strong emphasis on practical instruction, leadership at first-line level, and positively influencing behaviours on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on training in milling and turning operations
- Coach and mentor individuals on machining best practice and safe working methods
- Demonstrate leadership at first-line level and challenge poor or unsafe behaviours
- Support and promote a strong health and safety culture
- Clearly articulate training requirements and adapt approach to individual skill levels
- Lead by example in a precision engineering environment
Essential Experience and Skills
- 2 to 3 years competent machining experience, dependent on individual capability
- Strong experience with Shop Mill and Shop Turn, plus manual milling and turning
- Background in engineering or manufacturing
- Hands-on experience including hand fitting
- Confident communicator with the ability to teach and coach others
- Safety-focused and fully compliant with H&S requirements
- Willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS assessment
Desirable
- Teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience
- Formal teaching qualification
- Experience using Siemens interfaces
- Previous experience in public or private sector engineering or manufacturing environments
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent
- NVQ Level 4 would be highly advantageous
